I'm 80 and had this insalled on my old computer which was a Win7 upgraded to Win10. It is a disc and installion went fine (including entering the serial#) and I had been opening pdfs okay but today when trying to view a uitilitty bill this error window popped up. The serial # is correct so I'm confused about what to do. I'm also overwhelmed by them many Adobe products support options and cannot find a chat link to get support. Also, I could possibly copy stuff from my old computer's registry, if needed, though would need to be pointed to the right key or whatever might be needed. Thanks.

If the serial number was accepted in the first installation there's no reason for it to be asked for later on. What is the exact text of the message you're getting? Also, make sure you don't have any other versions of Acrobat or Reader installed, as that would result in a conflict.

Unfortunately, even if you were able to contact Adobe, they are not likely to help you, since Acrobat X is an outdated version, past its End Of Life date. It's also not officially compatible with any current OS, so problems are to be expected.

To increase the chances of it working properly make sure you have all updates installed (up to 10.1.16) and run it in Compatibility Mode with an earlier OS, like Windows 7.

Updates are available here:
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/10.x/
You must use a dedicated FTP client (such as FileZilla) to open the link, it won't work in most browsers.

Attempted to open the file again and got a message saying I was starting a 30 day free trial. My daughter thinks this may have had a limited # of times it could be installed since I have the original disc and envelope and know the serial # is correct. Really all I've used it for is creating pdfs for word files and filling out forms online. There is a free product called CutePDF Writer that their online CutePDF Editor will suffice for time when I need to fill out forms. Thanks for your response.

If that were the case then the message would say something different, like "You've exceeded the number of allowed activations". It will not say the S/N is invalid...

Ah, well, it is beyond me to figure out. Indeed, it makes no sense. I was living in a large senior complex in South Orange, NJ years ago when a helpful resident installed it. Unlike the rest of us, he was actually a young man (in a wheelchair because of an accident). He was great about helping with computer problems for all the residents and I'm sure I gave him a nice gift certificate as a thank you for it and I'm still glad I did. I live in VA now and with my small needs will make do with CutePDF. Thanks again.
