When I have multiple pdf's open and I want to close one (they all get close).
I seem to have marked the "always close all" or something and now I realize that was a mistake.
I would like to know how to re-set Adobe or if there is an easier solution I would like to hear it.

If multiple PDFs are opened in same window then there should be an option to close each file separately (as shown below)
As mentioned above, you can simply select File>Close from menu-bar. You can reset the Acrobat's preferences following the steps suggested here: How to reset Acrobat Preference settings to default. Or can uninstall the application to reset the preferences using cleaner tool- http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html and reinstall it.

I had the same question, after accidentaly clicking "Always close all tabs" and the replies given here are not helpful. Now I have figured it out.
Edit > Preferences > General > (click on) Prompt before closing multiple tabs > OK

Its not highlighted for me to click it. Its grayed out. I had touninstall Acrobat and reinstall it..... now all messed up! my tools were on the left. Now right. Figured out how to open pdfs in their own window, now trying to close one at a time instead of all closing
