How do I Get the Functionality of the Old Typewriter Tool?

I just upgraded from an older version of Acrobat.

With that version I could click anywhere on the PDF and free form type.  This used to be called "typewrter tool" I believe.

I've tried various things with the current version, but nothing seems to give the same functionality - I get boxes, word wrapping after a few words, and just general not allowing me to type free from.

Is there some way I can just type text into a PDF with the current version?

Thanks, the problem with that is that after going across about 20% of the page the text starts wrapping - is there any way to avoid that wrapping so I can write across the whole page?

The "Add Text" tool in the newer versions replaces the old Typewriter tool. You can find it under "Edit PDF" or "Fill & Sign" for freeform typing. It works similarly but may handle text boxes a bit differently. Adjusting the font size and box settings can help it feel more like the old tool.
