How do I remove the "Move page controls out of toolbar" button from Adobe Acrobat?

New Here ,
Dec 09, 2025 Dec 09, 2025

Good day all,

So I regularly have to use Adobe for work and am on multiple monitors and documents.  As such I am moving at high speed back and forth and regularly accidentally click on the "Move page controls out of toolbar" button when going to select "More Tools" for page controls.  This doesn't just "move" the tools, it completely REMOVES them (which once done, to the best of my knowledge can't be undone) and you then have to reselect all your tools individually (which takes forever as you can only do them one at a time).  At a glance without thinking, the icon even looks like it is what you would think a page selection drop down icon would look like.

I run Windows

I use "Acrobat Pro - Enterprise"

Version 2025.001.20937 (64-bit)

How do I remove this button?

Hi impressive_member8897,

Thank you for reaching out.

From the screenshot shared above, it seems that you are using the Acrobat Classic interface. There is no default option to remove the tool from the toolbar.

You may try switching to the new Acrobat experience. Please refer to the following help document for more information on the latest Acrobat experience: https://adobe.ly/4rMp1jp

Feel free to let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Good afternoon,

Thankyou for the response.

I'm not going to lie, I was a little disappointed when I saw that there isn't a capability in the classic interface.  When the new update originally installed I intentionally returned to the classic interface because the new one was incredibly difficult to use.  I found its set up and application very jarring due to the complete change of everything overnight from the layout to the design and icons (when the 'update' came out) and nothing was easily explained or located.  Also from a purely aesthetic point of view I prefer the classic view.

So, if I were to switch to the new interface there are a few things that would need to happen.

1) Can you guaranty that I can remove the offending "Move page controls out of toolbar"?

2) Can I customise my top tool bar in a way that suits my functionality?

3) Can the "share" icons be actively removed?

4) Has the highlighting issue been fixed? (Once I use the "highlight text" function on something I am unable to then click and drag to highlight the text for copying and pasting.  It just sticks a stupid box over the text thereby effectively negating either access to the text, or negating use of the "highlighting text" function since it blocks access to the text afterwards.)

Sorry these may be things that are actually easy fixes that I am not privy to, but when I first turned on Adobe to find everything different without warning, I was pretty annoyed and just needed to be able to do my work so I went back to the classic as I knew how it worked and had it set up.  I'm the type of person that likes things to be set up precisely, and having to change for no perceived benefit or improvement left me in a position where I preferred the classic.

Regards,

Hi impressive_member8897,

In the new Acrobat experience:

1. There will be no "Move page controls out of toolbar" option. You get a floating toolbar on the left-hand side of the window for easy access to tools.

2. Yes, you do get the option to customize the toolbar as per your needs. Please refer to the following help document: https://adobe.ly/451Zqcj;

3.  There is a single share option in the new Acrobat. For more information, refer to the following help document: https://adobe.ly/3Mri9Yy.

4. Could you please share more information on the issue that occurred with highlighting text? Currently, there is no issue with the highlighting text.

You can always switch back to classic using the "Disable new Acrobat" under the Menu in the new Acrobat.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Good morning,

Thankyou for your reply.  Perhaps it is time I gave the new interface another try; hopefully there have been some updates since the first implementation that I find improve my experience and usage, because I found it confusing the first time round.  But I'm not beyond admitting that that may have been me just being stubborn because it ws unexpected and forced change.

However, you said the toolbar is "floating" and on the "left-hand side".

Does that mean that there is no fixed toolbar?

Can I set my toolbar across the top like a standard ribbon?  I genuinely cannot stand side bars and will immediately change that with almost any program I use, or I cease using them altogether.  I find horizontal access of page space is more important and useful than vertical; I can just scroll the page for that.

As for the highlighting issue I mentioned.

I will regularly have to work with many documents at the same time across multiple formats, as such I will usually preread my documents first.  I used to then use the "Highlight text" function on the relevant data to ensure I don't miss it, using different colours to denote relevance to different types of things in the same document.  Then I would spread my other documents across my other screens and use my cursor to 'click and drag highlight' on text to then 'copy and paste' it where needed.  I specifically use the 'copy and paste' function because alot of the time the text is alphanumeric sequences and it is vital that they are accurately replicated or it will cause serious issues depending on the task I am doing; ranging from system failures in some cases where the data is code, and if the data is safety and/or legislation based I will get literal legal and/or compliance issues if not accurate.

The issue is that once I use the "Highlight text" function in a document it now puts a stupid box around the text whenever I try to click on back on the data I used the "Highlight text" function on; this prohibits my ability to click in the text freely.  The only work around is to either right click and select "Enable Text Selection" which lasts just until you click out of the text before having to redo do that each, OR, I have to click outside the desired "Highlight text" data and then shift + arrow key instead of click and drag, but this only works if there is text nearby.

Ideally I would want to permanently disable the stupid box around my data the "Highlight text" function has been used on, so that effectively "Enable Text Selection" is permanently on.

It may not seem like much, but honestly to me and for my use of Adobe for PDF documents, this is one of the most cumbersome and irritating problems that makes me avoid Adobe as much as possible.

P.S, It has been a while since I used this account and I just saw my user name again and chuckled.  It was the system assigned one.

Hi impressive_member8897,

We know that the new Acrobat represents a notable change. However, as you get familiar with the new interface, it will be easier to work with.

As for the floating toolbar, it is aligned vertically on the left-hand side in a fixed position. You can also move it around on the screen. It is currently not possible to pin it to the top like a standard ribbon.

For the highlighted issue, we understand what you are talking about now. You can always select the text if you click just before that box. Then, you can select the one that is highlighted and use the Copy & Paste feature.

As you highlight the text, it becomes an annotation, and whenever you click on it, the commenting feature is activated, which hinders text selection. We will check with the team if there is anything that can be done in this case.

Please try the new Acrobat and share your experience. We're always looking for ways to improve Acrobat.

Thanks,

Meenakshi
