How to add automatic numbered circles in Adobe Acrobat Pro?

Community Beginner ,
Dec 28, 2021 Dec 28, 2021

What I am looking for is an efficient (and very quick) way to add numbered circles in any part of a pdf document.
The nearest thing I found is Tool --> Comment --> Add Text Box, in which I insert manually the number. Is there any way (a "Macro" tool or whatever) so I can click somewhere on a page and number 1 is added, I click on another part and number 2 (in a circle/rectangle) is added automatically without inserting manually each time? (it will save me A LOT of time since I have to do it very frequently).

I am a student and I find it very easy to study in this way: reading the textbook (pdf file) and where I want to give more explanation I put next a circled number and on a paper I indicate that number and write down how much I want. Now I want to do everything digitally. So I would use Acrobat as pdf reader and Word to type all my notes. Finally, (a time consuming process) I would merge my notes + the pdf textbook in one pdf file and LINK each circled number with its clone on my typed notes (so I can quickly go to that specific part without scrolling).
IF YOU HAVE any suggestion to link "automatically"  (while creating them) a circled number to its correspondant on my opened Word document it would be appreciated.

(Note: by "automatically" I also mean using Keyboard shortcuts. The goal is to save time as much as I can during that process, considering that my textbooks and Word documents will be huge. doing it all manually will last hours and hours).

Thank you so much!

The first part can be done using the Stamp tool. A script can be used to automatically increment the value of the stamp you apply after you press it. Linking those stamps to a Word document is not possible, though.

Thank you! Unfortunately I have no Coding knowledge so I don't know how to write a Script and even how to add it to make it work. Do you please have any further suggestion or a link where I can copy the Script from? (if someone already wrote it somewhere on the Web).

Thank you!

There was a similar stamp already out there (I think it was called something "evidence"), but I can't provide an exact link. If you're interested, I could develop it for you, for a fee. You can contact me privately via [try6767 at gmail.com] to discuss it further.

Thank you for your help!

I found it here:

 (github.com)https://github.com/q335r49/AcrobatIncrementStamp

It works pretty well.
And I am glad you shared your email address with me, I may contact you in the future for other Acrobat tools if you allow me!

Thank you!

Definitely looks better--but, just for the record, one has to subscribe to PDFScripting at $150 per year. Is that correct?

(PDFScripting is an excellent resource; I just want to make sure the OP realizes the cost.)

You only have to subscribe once, and then that tool, and all the others can be downloaded.  You also get discounts on customized updates for you're specific process.

Thank you for your answer!

Definitely interesting!
You said that for 150$ I am able to download all other tools for Acrobat! What kind of other tools are available?
Is something like this available? (I don't even know if it is technically possible because it involves Word software!).

What I want to do (as I explained in the question) is marking specific lines of the pdf document with the numbered circle/rectangle. and THEN I would use that number as a reference, I would put that number (for ex. 1), in a Word document (as numbered list) and next to it I would type explanations etc.
SO after that I would (manually) link each circled number on the pdf with its corresponding one on Word. (I.E. when I click on the number on the pdf, it shows me that specific Part on Word, or on the pdf document in case I merge the 2 documents as a single pdf document). Is there any automatic tool for that?
(I know that It may be simpler to merge the pdf document with the word document in a single pdf and then look for a tool that detects 2 similar numberes (1 and 1) and automatically create a link between them. BUT converting Word to pdf will not play multimedia files I may attach to Word document and it will prevent me to do any quick modifications).

DOES PDFScripting have any similar tool?

Thank you!

The Acrobat scripting environment is heavily sandboxed for security reasons, so it is not possible to interact directly with Word, or any other application.  Also, the only annotation that provides a clickable action is the link annoation. So the bubbles can't be used to link to something.  However, it would be possible to automatically find matching text and create links between the locations. It would also be possible to add information to the bubble that could be exported to a data file for use by another tool, such as word or excel.  Currently there are no tools at the site that perform these tasks. But they could be created.

There are other ways to automate Acrobat  as part of a document process.  And just about anything can be done, it's just a matter of time, cost, and feasibility. If you'd like to discuss this further, please message me through the forum, or throught www.pdfscripting.com

Tnere is a tool that does this. It's a little known tool used exclusively in the accounting indistry, called PDFlyer. It's enterprise software, and they have no online purchasing option, but I'm including this inforation here in case someone else ever needs to track down this company.
