I am retired and no longer need Adobe Pro DC. I can't get to my files to transfer or delete them, I am blocked by a message that tells me my subscription has expired and I need to pay. All I need is Acrobat reader.

You can get Reader for free under: https://get.adobe.com/reader
Where did you save your files that you can't access them?

I do have a Reader. I want to unsubscribe from Adobe DC, but before I do, I want to see my files first, to see which ones I can delete, and which ones I have to download onto my computer. But I can't get there, because a message pops up to say that I need to renew my subscription.

I think my question is, what happens to my files on the Acrobat cloud when I cancel my subscription?

You should still have access to 2 GB cloud storage.
