How to reduce a PDF form size ?

Hello Commuity.

I created a PDF form (3 pages) but it's quite heavy, almost 3 MB. Not very ideal for large scale diffusion.

When I audit the space usage, I see the fonts represent 84% of the file size. I went to the fonts category of the PDF Optimizer tool but no fonts are embedded. I drives me crazy...

I unfortunately cannot join the form nor include a screenshot due to confidential reasons.

How can I do to reduce the size of my form ?

Thanks a lot for the ideas 🙂

Make sure you only use fonts from the top of the list, before the first horizontal line.

Thanks Try67 for the quick answer!

I am already using a font that is "above the line" for my fields to fill in (red rectangles fields in the enclosed picture).

But for all my titles, there is not the said line in the fonts selector (see screeenshots enclosed).

Your screenshot of the fields does not show that. You're showing the static text next to the fields. I'm talking about the font used in the fields themselves... You can see it by going to a field's Properties and looking under the Appearance tab:

Also, even if you selected a different font even once and then saved the file, it will now be embedded in it and will not be removed if you later on change it to something else. To do that you need to use the Sanitize Document command.

There are several ways to reduce the size of a PDF form:

Optimize images: Reduce the resolution and compression of images in the form to minimize their file size.

Compress fonts: If you are not embedding the fonts, try embedding only the characters used in the form instead of the entire font file.

Remove unnecessary elements: Delete any unnecessary elements such as comments, bookmarks, or form fields that are no longer needed.

Reduce the number of pages: If possible, try to combine multiple pages into one, or remove unnecessary pages.

Use a PDF compressor: There are many online PDF compressor tools available that can automatically optimize your PDF form and reduce its size.
I hope this can help you at least a little bit 🙂
