I used Acrobat Professional for many years. Never had a problem. It was initutive, easy to use, and worked fine.

Not so with this HORRIFIC Acrobat Standard 2017. It is anything BUT intuitive. At least as bad, the Adobe website has a picture of Acrobat 2014. In 2019?? That's just insane.

All I want to do is remove a password. How ON EARTH does one do that?

This goes to show just how far out of touch Adobe's arrogance has taken it. I'll never buy another product from your company NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER.

To remove the password with the password PDF opened you need to select "File => Properties" and then select the "Security" tab in the pop-up window. Select the option to change the security to "No Password". You will be prompted for the current password of the file. You must supply the correct password to remove the password. This is how PDF password security has worked for many versions.

Hey there!

Sorry to hear about your frustrating experience.

Following the steps suggested above, you can remove the password from a pdf file. However, it would only let you remove the password, if you already know the current one. You can remove security from an open PDF if you have the permissions to do so. If the PDF is secured with a server-based security policy, only the policy author or a server administrator can change it.

  • Open the PDF, then select Tools > Protect > Encrypt > Remove Security.
  • Your options vary depending on the type of password security attached to the document:
  • If the document had only a Document Open password, click OK to remove it from the document.
If the document had a permissions password, type it in the Enter Password box, and then click OK. Click OK again to confirm the action.

Thanks,

Akanchha
