I got frustrated and opened a Microsoft Word document, starting to completely re-make a PDF. By opening it, suddenly in the background Adobe decided to update.

Hi @adam_0361,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble.

It looks like you formerly installed Acrobat Reader, and later logged in to your Acrobat Pro account, which causes Acrobat to download all the tools in the background.

In such a scenario, run the Acrobat cleaner tool https://adobe.ly/48AEzxl, reboot the computer once, and install the application using the direct link https://adobe.ly/48AEzNR and see if that works for you.

If not, next would be to disable your Defender Firewall for sometime, which might block Acrobat from accessing the sites, necessary to download the tools.

You can disable the firewall by following the steps here: Turn Microsoft Defender Firewall on or off - Microsoft Support.

Note: Please enable the firewall once the process is complete.

Let me know if this helps.
