How do we copy the appearance, format and/or validate from one field to other fields

You can't.

But the right answer often comes from abandoning the "wrong" question:

Create one field set with the correct format, etc., then duplicate it.

Either using copy-paste (manual renaming) for some, or right-click: Create Multiple Copies if there are many (automatic renaming).

PS: above is for Format and Validation tabs (and Calculate).
For the Appearance tab and the others you just have to select all the fields before modifying them.
