incorrect colour separations

I  have reviewed a couple pdf 's which show an area of a design with CMYK, which is incorrect.  Three of my colleagues have reviewed the same pdf which only shows M&Y (which is correct).  We are all using the same version of adobe and all set to Fogra39.  If I change and save each pdf to PDF/X it seems to show correctly but it is not feasible to do this each an every time.

I review multiple design pdfs on a daily basis as part of my job  but now can't trust the separations that are displayed.

Any ideas?

I have noticed a similar thing with the latest update of Acrobat Pro. It seems to have a conflict showing up true CMYK values versus showing CMYK values thats have been converted from RGB even though the file itself is truly CMYK.

I found a quick fix which was to toggle "Simulate overprint" on and off which then reverts the colour in question to its true CMYK Values.

This is not ideal as I review hundreds of client supplied PDF files a week for print production so I want to be certain what I see at a glance is accurate and not have to second guess. 

If anyone has any similar experiences I would love to hear any work arounds.

Consider the "new Acrobat" as a beta version, many features are still missing or half-implemented.

I have reverted back to the previous version as i couldnt get to grips with the updated one but Im still having the same problems. 😞
