I export from indesign, it opens in acrobat, great. I go back to indesign make a small change and overwirte the pdf, that is currently open in acrobat.  It wont update to the current version. Acrobat used to do this. Now I have to check acrobat, make sure my file is closed, then indesign to export.

Ive accidentally emailed wrong versions to clients.

Is there a preference to make this behave like previsos version of acrobat did.

Are you sure about that? I don't think this was ever an option. When a file is opened in Acrobat it's locked and can't be overwritten by other applications, and even if it were, Acrobat wouldn't reload it automatically and show the new contents.
