InDesign PDF prints with streaked text when using Acrobat

I have a file that I designed using InDesign, when I print from InDesign it prints clear. When I save that file as a pdf and print using Acrobat the text prints with steaks through it. I have figured out that if I print it using the Print as Image feature it prints clear; however from what I have read while troubleshooting the Print as Image feature is not to be used regularily. Is this just how the file has to print or is there someway to print it without using Print as Image?

I am using a mac, pdf prints fine from windows computers. I also just downloaded acrobat today so it is the latest update.

What do you mean by streaks? can you show us a sample?
