Initial View Settings Ignored

Explorer ,
Feb 10, 2022 Feb 10, 2022

I used to be able to set Initial View settings in the Document Properties dialog box, I've done it countless times over the years, never had a problem until now.

Those settings do nothing now.  Every PDF I create is now set to Zoom to Fit and Continuous Scroll, which opens to what appears to be an empty file, until you scroll to the right and come upon a long, tiny column of pages. What's worse is it doesn't even start at the top, it just randomly picks a place somewhere.  The files are worthless because nobody will know what to do to view them.

Is there something else I have to do now to regain Initial View control?

Have you changed the initial view after creation of the files?

Settings in Preference : Accessibility can overide document's settings.

You should check that.

There were only 2 things checked there:

• Use document structure for tab order when no explicit tab order is specified.

• Enable assistive technology support

I turned both off and retried.  There was one difference, you no longer have to scroll to the right to see the stack of tiny pages.  Still not what I need, but at least that one problem is solved.  Thanks!

I have the same problem with the Initial View settings ignored. I saw that suggestion about accessibility options also in a 5-year old thread here. That option on my machine is not enabled. This is a pretty bad bug because a lot of users won't know to scroll or how to enable those initial settings.

This looks like a bug that's several years old that Adobe hasn't addressed. So tired of fighting with this software.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Acrobat/Reader DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 22.1.20085 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only)

You may also try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau...

Please try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win or enable the root account in MAc and try using the application there and check .

Amal

The Creative Cloud application says Acrobat is up to date. The version is 2021.011.20039.

Some of the preferences files listed in the above article didn't exist, but I removed the ones that did. After doing that and opening a file where I configured to display page thumbnails, they displayed at first. But when I closed the file and re-opened it, the thumbnails didn't display again. Closing and restarting Acrobat also didn't change the behavior.
