Question

Insert text tool

With the old version, when adding comments to a PDF, I used to be able to put my cursor where I wanted to add new type and just start typing. It automatically added it as a Insert text comment. In this new version, I have to go to the quick access tools and select the comemnt tools and then click again to select the insert text tool in order to do that. Has anyone found a way to set it so that I can just put my cursor there and start typing instead of picking a tool? Are there settings I can change to make that happen? Also, do whe have to leave the tool bars where they are, or can we move them around?

It will work if you open the Commenting tools first. You don't have to select any tool, just open the tool category.

Thank you both for your help. I am self-taught so I might not understand all of the terminology. Can you expand on your answer a bit more? By "It will work" are you saying that I should be able to put my cursor within the text and be able to start typing to get it to make an insert text comment? If so, I need help understanding "It will work if you open the Commenting tools first." Do you mean the "Add Comments" tool on the left? When I click this I get a sticky note. I have my Acrobat set to automatically open the Comments Pane when a PDF with comments is opened. Here is a screen shot. Can you direct me to where I need to click?

You have the comments pane opening but are not technically in the Comments tools.

Click here (your version says "Add Comments"):

You should see these tools at top:

If you want to return to the previous Acrobat interface:

  • Windows: Select the hamburger menu, and then choose Disable new Acrobat.
  • macOS: Go to View > Disable new Acrobat.

Hi @lindam60487486

Hope you are doing well. And thank you for reaching out.

Looking at the description above, you seem to refer to Acrobat's Modern Viewer.

In Modern Viewer, you can customize the toolbar and add "Insert text comment" as a shortcut.

Click on the 3-dots > Comment> select "Insert Text" > add to the Toolbar as a shortcut and Save.

Are there settings I can change to make that happen? Also, do whe have to leave the tool bars where they are, or can we move them around?

This is in the pipeline. The engineering team is currently working on to make the toolbar moveable. This will be available with future updates.

Thanks,

Akanchha
