Interapplication Communication not working in 64bit

We have downloaded the latest Acrobat DC and SDK. There is a sample for C and VB called StaticView which is supposed to allow for the display of a PDF document within a custom application window. This works for 32bit but not for 64bit. For 64bit the PDF is displayed in the top left corner of the desktop, outside the custom window.

What is it that's 64 bit when it doesn't work?

Acrobat pro?

IAC client app?

System?
