Invalid serial number for Acrobat Pro 6.0

I had to reinstall Acrobat Professional 6.0(from a downloaded copy purchased from Adobe.com). The install will not complete. It says "Invalid serial number. Please try again". The only option is to cancel, and then I get the Message: "Adobe Acrobat could not install correctly. Adobe Acrobat was unable to install a necessary component and must quit."

I have verified the number with Adobe Licensing. Adobe Support informs me that they do not support version 6 and the answer is hidden away in the knowledgebase. I have searched the forums and the knowledgebase - to no avail.

Can someone please help or point me to the Doc # (if there is one).
Please do not suggest that I download a pirated version. That is not an option for me.

G4 PowerPC 500MHZ, 1GB SDRAM, 100GB still available on HD. OS X 10.4.11

Can anyone help please?
thanks,
MWG

Did it install before, when you first downloaded it?

What form does the serial number take - don't post the actual number,
but write it something like

1234-1234-1234-
or
ABC1234-434

so that we can see what are digits and what are letters, where are
hyphens etc.

Was this an upgrade from a previous version? If so you might try to
input the older serial number

Mike,
Yes, it was actually. From way back to ver. 4.0! The serial numbers for 4.0 have letters and numbers. 6.0 will only let me put in numbers.
thanks,

From the Knowledgebase:

I also uninstalled all of my Adobe products including CS2; emptied the trash and restarted computer... Same problem (invalid serial number).

You said this was an upgrade from 4.0, correct? Maybe you need to install 4.0, enter the 4.0 serial number, then install 6 on top of it (not sure if you can skip installing 5 in between or not). I suspect that the upgrade version of Acrobat 6 is looking for some kind of license file for the older version(s). Otherwise what's to stop all users from saving money on the less expensive upgrade version without ever purchasing the full retail copy? Just curious...why did you need to reinstall everything in the first place?

Unfortunately, I no longer have the CD for 4.0. That was at least 6 years ago. And it was for OS 9. In any event, Adobe says that the license is correct and that it should work. I am going to bite the bullet and upgrade to 9.0. I am so sick of the run-around.
thanks for all the help.

Don't buy an upgrade if you don't have the original retail serial number. You won't be able to install it, just like you were not able to install version 6 without the serial number or installation of retail version 4.

You need to either find the original version (or proof of purchase thereof), or buy a new full version.

This is one of the advantages of REGISTERING you Adobe software. They keep a database of your serial numbers which you can access!

I DO have the original retail serial numbers for all of my software.
Also, I DID register all my products with Adobe. Accessing the serial number is not the problem. The software will simply not install correctly. Adobe has verified the number and says there is no reason it should not work (but at the same time, they have no idea why it doesn't). Adobe informs me that I CAN upgrade with the SN I have for 6.0.
Thanks

Except for the part where you said you uninstalled all of your Adobe products, I assume this includes uninstalling Acrobat 4. Without the Retail copy of Acrobat 4 (and 5) installed on your system, the upgrade copy of Acrobat 6 will not be able to be installed.

Although you should be aware that Acrobat 6 is not officially supported on Mac OS 10.4. Honestly, if you can, your best bet is to purchase a Retail (non-upgrade copy) of Acrobat 9, which is officially supported on Mac OS 10.4.11 and 10.5.

I'm having the exact same issue, only with Windows XP Pro. Previously had Acrobat Pro 4.0 and 6.0 on machine. Deleted by mistake. Uninstalled and reinstalled about 20 times over 10 hours and Adobe help was NO HELP! Valid serial number for 6.0 shows up in the registration screen, but software says it's invalid. How do I delete it so that I can continue installation?

Well, Adobe "tech" support, that is, lack thereof, and the many hours of checking and trying possible solutions online wore me down. I bought a 9.0 upgrade to my 8.0 product that I had purchased for 2 other computers. Good luck.

Is there a comparable routine to use with a G4 Mac?  I have used Acrobat 6 Standard for years, had the hard drive on my PowerBook fail, replaced it, restored Acrobat from the backup, but am not able to open it.  I'm away from home, so can't put in the original disks.

Ah - I removed the Administrator password, and now one more (maybe the eighth) attempt and it works - phew!
