Is it normal for Acrobat to be unusable while updating?

We recently upgraded our machines to perpetual Acrobat Cloud. I have noticed that when running its monthly update, any open PDFs crash and you cant open Acrobat while the update is running. Approx 10 mins.

I know Acrobat is updating when tickets start coming in about Acrobat crashing and PDFs not opening. The least we could provide users with is a notification, so they know what is going on.

Is this normal? I dont recall this being an issue with any older non-perpetual versions or any other piece of software we run on our machines.

Thanks,

N

What is perpetual Acrobat Cloud?

Normally, when a program updates, you can't use it, as the updater need to access files that are locked when running a program. However, in a managed environment, the system manager normally decides when updates run. This is normally done at night, when the users are logged out.

Hi, sorry I got my terminology backwards. Perpetual is software you purchase outright and own, vs the subscription type arrangement you pay annually indefintely.
All of our other software is usable while its updating, Windows and Office just give you a notification saying that the machine requires a restart or an app needs to close/open, as do our browsers and everything else we use from day to day.
Even the previous vesion of Acrobat didnt just crash out Acrobat and start running an update.

Either way, if this is how it is, then we just have to untick the auto update box and test out other options for managing it.
