Is there a way to change the Highlight color from Yellow to Black so certain text can be "hidden"?

I need the ability to "hide" certain text in documents, principally financial statements and other documents for clients I represent as a business broker and financial consultant.

I suppose I could continue using a black marker and re-scan, but don't want to make more copies and spend time re-scanning. Seems to me it would be much easier to 'edit' and 'save as' a new pdf. There are times when I'm nowhere near a copier and/or scanner (i.e., in a hotel room when I'm traveling).

Also, would that really work? Wouldn't someone else simply be able to see what's been highlighted?

What are my options?

Acrobat Standard Version 9.5

Thanks in advance.

Good day Glenn,

You may want to consider upgrading from Acrobat 9.5 Standard to Acrobat X Pro.  Acrobat X Professional has the redaction tool which is really easy to use.

You could also accomplish the workflow you described in your question.  If you right-click the tool-bar, and enable the Properties Bar, you can change the color of your highlighter tool to black.  Then you can 'highlight' the text you would like to eliminate.  After you're done, print the document to the Adobe PDF printer with 'Document and Markup' selected under the 'Comments and Forms' drop-down menu to 'refry' your PDF.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,

David

Refrying a document with markups that hide text underneath them will NOT

remove that text, just hide it. It will still be possible to select the

text or extract it with a script.

Thanks for jumping in with the clarification.

The workflow the original poster described is possible.  I suppose I should have called out the solution would work for making the text "hidden" in that it's still there, but the view is obstructed.  The text is can still be selected and copied.

Sorry for the confusion.

Just downloaded trial version of Adobe Pro X and tested. Worked exactly as I needed. Defintely worth the $199 upgrade price.

Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks. Tried that, using the darkest black available. When I open the new pdf I can still 'see' the text. Plus, when I went back to the original document to test on other text, I could not perform the task.

I just downloaded Acrobat X trial verision. I did some research after posting my question and found that X had a redaction feature. An upgrade cost of $199 is not all that onerous given the need for such a critical capability.
