Java Script in Acrobat Action Wizard

Community Beginner ,
Sep 19, 2023 Sep 19, 2023

For years I have run an action I built in the Action Wizard. One component is a Java script to add a blank page after every page in the document, the other component being a standard page command to rotate all the pages. Recently Acrobat upgraded. Now every time Acrobat is closed the built Action disappears and must be recreated again. I tried to disable the new Acrobat interface but that did not help. In logging into my Creative Cloud account, I find that pretty much any other application includes the option to go back to an older version but Acrobat does not. I use this function every week. The files I use it on are 2,000+ pages so I have to have some form of automation to do this. I am running Windows 10 and all the most recent Creative Cloud apps.

Below is the Java I am using:

for (pg = 0; pg<=5000;
pg=pg+2)
{
this.insertPages({nPage:pg,
	cPath:"TTBlankPage_Ltr.pdf"
	});
}

Thank you

Hi @bevg10349722 ,

In which version of Adobe Acrobat this used to work for you?

And which version of Acrobat do you have now ?

Also, what operating system are you on?

Hi there. Your question prompted me to find out what happened to start the issue. Acrobat is installed on a 64-bit version of Windows 10 Pro. We have an older production printer that came with Acrobat Pro DC and and PitStop licenses. The older  Acrobat Pro DC is version 2015.006.30527. After getting the printer we acquired Creative Cloud licensing. With it, someone apparently installed Acrobat Pro, version 2023.003.20215 - odd note on that is that it is 32-bit. They also apparently made the newer version the default for PDFs. I had looked and did not readily see that there were two versions of Acrobat installed as Windows only showed the newer version in the programs list. So, when I opened the older version, not only was my action there, but it was multiplied about 10 times. I'm guessing once for every time I created the action on the newer version of Acrobat. Everything works fine on the older version. However, upon investigation, I found that the action doesn't disappear from the newer version when Acrobat is closed . . . it disappears immediately after the script has run. I don't usually maintain multiple versions of Acrobat for fear of some shared component file becoming confused. I'm going on vacation next week so I'm happy I found a solution that will let me leave town in peace, but my intent is to try to find out why this happens with the new version of Acrobat Pro. I hate the thought of uninstalling the older Pro DC version because of the PitStop license that will only install on the Acrobat that came with our production printer. Thoughts on what might be going on and how to solve are much appreciated.

Did you try re-creating the Action?

TRY67, thanks so much. Yes. I re-created multiple times. I just responded to ls_rbls response. Really weird. Found I have two versions of Acrobat. I create the action on the new one that has just realeased. After it runs it disappears. Once I became aware I had another, older version of Acrobat (the PC is not mine, just one I manage at work) and opened it I found that not only was my action there, but it was there once for every time I had re-created it on the other version of Acrobat. I need to pursue a more permanent solution than just continuing to use the older version but at least I have a little breathing room.
