Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.
Is this an issue with the PDFs having high number of comments or with other PDFs as well having less comments? Please try with a different PDF file and check.
Go to Preferences (Ctrl, Cmd+K) > Commenting > Uncheck 'Show comments pane When a PDF with comments is opened' > Click OK and reboot the application once and see if that works.
Also make sure you have the recent version 23.06.20380 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once. And try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only)
If it still doesn't work, Would you mind collecting the Adobe CC logs https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-log-collector.html , and Crash/freeze logs https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/collect-logs-crash-freeze.html and share them via any cloud storage. Just upload the log file to the cloud and generate the link and share that link with us for further investigation.
Regards
Amal
