making selection tool the default choice

New Here ,
Jun 21, 2024 Jun 21, 2024

I have Adobe Acrobat X1 Pro.  I want to make the selection tool for text and images, rather than the hand tool (which makes the side scroll bar disappear, maddeningly!!) the default choice when opening documents. I open a document, the hand tool is enabled.  I switch this to the selection tool (the scroll bar reappears), close the document, and reopen, and the same thing happens (back to the hand tool, no scroll bar).  I have gone into edit-preferences-accessibility and the "Always display the keyboard delection cursor" is not enabled.  I check it to enable, close, and reopen.  That box remains checked, but the the hand tool is enabled again, no matter what I do.  PLEASE HELP!!! (Open to any other way to have the scroll bar be there by default - that's what I'm going after).

thanks in advance!

Hi there, hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out. Please try the steps below and see if that works:

  • Open a PDF, right-click to select the SelectTool
  • In Edit>Preferences>Accessibility>CHECK "Always display the keyboard selection cursor">Click OK (this is unchecked by default)
  • In Edit>Preferences>General - Change Touch Mode to Always (This is Auto-detect by default)

Note: Acrobat XI is an EOl application (https://adobe.ly/4btzsPy)
