64-bit Acrobat Pro is now available in my region but my installation won´t automatically update from 32 to 64-bit because I have plugins installed that are not from Adobe apparently. I really wan´t 64-bit because I need more performance. Is there a smarter way to manually update to 64-bit or do I need to uninstall 32-bit and do a completely new installation with 64-bit and loose all my settings etc...?

Could could try uninstalling all the plugins. Check you can buy upgrades to 64 bit for all the plugins you use. You absolutely can't continue to use 32 bit plugins with 64 bit Acrobat in Windows.

Thanks for your reply.
The problem is that I use the plugins daily so I cannot unistall them and "wait" for Acrobat to automatically upgrade.
I think my only option is to completely unistall and install again. Unless someone else has a bright idea. 🙂

I don't understand your post...
Acrobat will NOT automatically upgrade from a 32-bit version to a 64-bit. You have to download and manually install the 64-bit version after uninstalling the 32-bit.
Adobe is not responsible for third-party plugin developers who don't offer the a 64-bit version of the plugin. YOU need to contact them and ask if they have a 64-bit version available.
If you cannot get 64-bit versions of your required plugins, don't change anything.
As an aside, the same issue occurs with Microsoft Office--it still installs a 32-bit version because most add-ons are not 64-bit compatible. One can manually install the 64-bit version but most add-ons won't work. I would think in today's environment, a 64-bit version would be the default but that's not the case.

That is no longer true and hasn't been for years for Office. Since at March 2019, 64-bit Office is the default for the install of Office 2019 and later.

You are correct about Office--version-wise. I did not check the date of transition. Thanks.
Without doing anything special, (my) Creative Cloud only installs the 32 bit version of Acrobat.

It sounds a lot of trouble for zero benefit. Yes, zero benefit - what do you expect to gain from going to 64-bit?

I get a bit of lag in the program especially when working with bigger files. I was hoping that 64-bit would improve this but maybe that is just optimistic thinking?🤷♂️

Applications that are compliled and optimized to operate on a 64-bit configuration will usually run faster due to having double the number of CPU registers and double the bits available in each register. "newer or modified applications can take advantage of new features of the processor design to achieve performance improvements" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64). I am not sure if Adobe Acrobat (64-bit) is optimized for 64-bit but I hope it is; most modern compilers would do that automatically. 64-bit architecture design is over 20 years old so it's not exactly new. IMO, most people should just use the more modern capabilites.

Hi there
Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.
The Adobe Acrobat is fully compatible for 64 bit Mac and Windows OS. For more information please check the help pages listed below:
Hope this information will help.

All you gain is the ability to use more than 2GB. Absolultely nothing else. It is not faster, or more reliable. A handful of people see "out of memory" errors and can fix them, but that is that. The only reason there is a 64-bit version is public demand from people who have been tricked by exagerated advertisting into believing 32-bit is junk...

OK! Thanks for that information! 😮

FYI, I did manually unistall 32-bit and reinstalled 64-bit (including plugins) and experienced a significant improvement in performance! If it was because there was something wrong with my previous installation or 64-bit is better, I do not know. But I don´t care either, I´m just happy it works so much better now! 😁
So if you experience same issue as I did - try it out!

Installing the 64-bit version isn't difficult. However, your first post was about third-party plugins. How did you resolve that?
