I have only been experiencing this problem for the last week and it appears my adobe acrobat reader has updated and this is the cause of the problem (version 2019.021.20049). I will have multiple windows open, each with multiple tabs of different PDF's. I'll only have one window currently maximized while the others are minimized. As soon as I start clicking around different tabs within the maximized window, the minimized windows will begin to open up and maximize in the background. So I am unable to click around different tabs within one maximized window while the other windows are minimized. Anybody possibly know why this is the case? I currently have enabled the "open documents as new tabs in the same window" option. I have always had this enabled because I want PDF's to open as new tabs within the same window. Any and all help is appreciated. I'll also add that I am running this program on a mac.
