Misaligned and missing letters when printing

Community Beginner ,
May 01, 2018 May 01, 2018

When I print PDFs that have been exported from PowerPoint, select individual letters are misaligned (shifted to the right) or missing altogether. Additional spaces between words are also printed. Each time I print the document, random pages are affected and I have to reprint them as one-off's. When I print the pages individually, they print fine.

Please provide more information.

Platform (Windows, MacOS)?

Versions of PowerPoint and Acrobat?

Exactly how was the PDF generated, Microsoft's Save as PDF or Acrobat's Save as PDF (PDFMaker) or maybe even printing to Adobe PDF (Windows)?

Finally, if you could post a copy of the original PowerPoint file and the resultant PDF file, we could much better help you as opposed to guessing as to what went wrong where!

Running MacOS 10.13, PowerPoint 16.12, and Acrobat 2018.011.20038. PDFs have been generated via Microsoft's Save as PDF or Export to PDF feature. The PowerPoint file and resultant PDF file appear fine digitally, but are printed incorrectly. I have attached a few photos as examples of the instance. I have communicated with the printer support company extensively and eliminated all possibility of the problem being on that end.

What printer do you use?

Is it possible to share the PDF (or a specifically created PDF, if the PDF is not to be shared with the public)?

Can you share the PDF, not an image of...? Just confirm that the file produces the error when printed.

I'm not sure how to upload a PDF document. I only see an image uploader in this reply window.

You need to upload to a service that allows to share files and then post the link here. One option is Adobe's Document Cloud service. I wrote instructions a while ago: Share Documents via Adobe's Document Cloud - KHKonsulting LLC

If you speak to Adobe, it’s not Acrobat. But to stay constructive: is the printer a Postscript printer or are you printing using HPCL?

Did you try print as image? (Advanced button on the Acrobat printing dialogue...).

Try print as image!

Is your printer a Postscript printer or HPCL?

This affects the quality of the document. If I print using Preview, the document prints fine. The problem is only when I print using Acrobat.

I checked for updates and I have the latest version. I tried doing Print PDF as Image, but the quality was impacted. The only way that I am able to print a PDF in good quality is using Apple Preview. The particular document I am working with is confidential so I cannot send it to you, but it is exported from a PDF that includes text, images, shapes, tables, color, and transparency. I anticipate that it's some sort of settings issue because when I reprint the inaccurate pages individually, they print just fine.
