My Acrobat stopped opening PNG files

New Here ,
Nov 11, 2021 Nov 11, 2021

I used to be able to open PNG files in Acrobat DC but lately it tells me that the file might be either not supported of corrupt. Same files that I used to work with before.

Hi @sergeik36699674

Hope you are doing well.

As per the issue description that you can't open PNG files anymore in Acrobat. Adobe supports the only PDF format to view. However, once you convert the PNG file to PDF you can view that in Acrobat.

To convert PNG to PDF you need to use Create PDF tool. Here is a helpful document you can refer to: https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/how-to/create-pdf.html

Let us know if that helps.

Thanks,

Harsh

The problem is not knowing how to convert file to PDF. I’ve used Acrobat professionally for over twenty years and pretty familiar with it by now. The problem is Acrobat stopped recognizing PNG files on my computer. In other works, PNG files are no longer supported.

@Harsh Vardhan Pareek I do not understand your comment here. I can easily drag a PNG onto the Acrobat icon in my Dock and it opens just fine. I can also, use the Open command from the File menu, select "All formats" and open a PNG.

The one glitch is that I noticed that after I've opened a PNG, I need to quit and restart Acrobat for the All Formats to work.

I would suggest that Serge should try quitting and restarting Acrobat to see if this solves his problem. However, even when I cannot access a PNG from the Open menu selection, I can still open a PNG by dragging it onto the Acrobat icon in my Dock. (Yes, I'm on a Mac w/ Big Sur)

I'm sure you can convert PNG into PDF just fine. The whole world can. The problem is that I can no longer do this on my PC for the last two years. And yes, I'm not an idiot, I worked with Acrobat for over 25 years, so you could imagine I've tried everything including reinstalling. Something on my PC causing the problem because other people could convert exactly the same PNGs. And it works on my Mac, just not on this company-issued machine.

Hi Sergeik,

Thank you for reaching out.

Could you please let us know what happens when you try to convert the PNG files to PDF?

Do you receive any error messages?

Did you try creating it directly from Acrobat?

Share the Acrobat and OS version you are using on the machine.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Has this been resolved. I'm dealing with this same issue and cannot find a solution. Its aggravating.
