My printer will not print what I send to it but, instead, prints a big vertical bar and nothing else

My Brother MFC-L8900 is printing a big vertical bar but not what I send it to print.  What can I do to fix this?

Are you referring to PDF files? If so, does it happen with all files? And what application (including version number) are you using to open these files?

Does it happen with other formats, too?
