Need Help Embedding a Link(s) in an Existing PDF

Community Beginner ,
Nov 04, 2024 Nov 04, 2024

I have a PDF of our restaurant menu. I want to add/embed a few text links and post this PDF on various online sites. The links when clicked would take viewers back to iour website.

I've made some links in Acrobat which seem to work but once the PDF is saved the links don't work. I don't know if I'm saving it improperly or what.

PLEASE HELP!

Hi @rodm53662127,

Hope you are doing well. Thanks for writing in!

Have you checked if the links are correctly mapped to the site you want to redirect your users to?

You might want to check the steps mentioned here: Links and attachments in PDFs, Adobe Acrobat

Hope this helps.

Hi @rodm53662127

Can you give more detail to how you added the link? Is it to text or an image? Did you put in the full URL (https://site.com)?
What happens when the link is clicked?

In Acrobat I clicked Link/New Links, highlighted the text and added the full url. In acrobat the link is only active if I click the T text tool and click on it. It's inactive if I use the Pointer tool. That's as far as I get. And I'm not sure how to save/export the file either.

How did you test it if you don't know how to save the file?

Saving is very simple: Go to Menu - Save or Save As and select a location.

We're going in circles. 🙂

I saved it and the link disappeared. Anyone know how to do this?

We're trying to understand exactly what you did, hence our questions.

If you could share a video demonstrating the issue, and/or the actual file, that would save a lot of these rounds of questioning...

Here's a pic of the pdf file and you can see at the top of the page I've inserted the link which works if you click on it. But when I save it the link vanishes. How can I save it so the link works? Save as other? Export?

From the photo, it looks like you have added the link correctly. With acrobat still open, can you click on teh link and go to the website? If so, when does the link stop working? Do you open the PDF in some other way and then the link does not work.

What should happen:
* With a PDF open in Acrobat Pro, you select text and add a web link.
* Save the file - Menu - Save.

You should be able to close the file and open the PDF in another way, say in a broweser and click the link and make it open the page.

As shown in the photo the link works. Then I save it it and as a test I then email the pdf to myself and when I open it the link doesnt work.

So to be clear, after you email the PDF to yourself you then save the PDF you attached to the email, open it and the link does not work. How are you opening the the PDF - what does it open with?

I tried emailing a PDF to myself with a link and the link still worked.

I Acrobat I save the PDF to my Documents. I then do a test email to myself and attach the file to the email. When I click on the PDF in the email it opens as a preview and the link doesn't work. Since then I've opened the file using Word (online version), Firefox & Coreldraw and the link doesn't work. BUT, I oepened it using Microsoft Edge and the link works (so a little progress). Not sure why it doesn't work in anything else so far.

When you click the PDF in the email, what program does it open into? I would not use Word or Coreldraw to open the PDF. What version of Firefox do you have? It may be an old version. It sounds like you're opening the PDF in a program that is not best suited to show PDFs and therefore is causing problems. If the PDF does open and work in Microsft Edge, then the problem is not with the PDF itself but with the tool that you're trying to open it with.

When you click the PDF in the email, it previews it in Hotmail.

Don't preview the file. Open the file in Adobe Acrobat.
