Need to make a pdf with renderable text searchable

Community Beginner ,

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The pdf was output from a Filemaker database straight to pdf format, no intermediary format that I am aware of. I don't understand the details of why Filemaker creates renderable text in the pdf, but I need every field of the pdf to be searchable. I have tried OCR unsuccessfully, and converting to .xps then back to .pdf unsuccessfully. Willing to try again from the start, I may be doing something wrong. I have Adobe Acrobat XI Standard and Adobe Reader DC installed. In parallel I am trying to install Professional DC 2015 thru my company's software portal in case that matters.

Adobe tech support helped solve the problem, thank you both.

Using Acrobat Distiller DC we converted the pdf to an image via the print menu, then ran an OCR. Every field is now searchable

Renderable text is just text. Filemaker has done its job. Renderable text is good and says no OCR is needed, it’s not, as some think, a weird fault.

If it doesn’t seem searchable, copy and paste some “not found” text. What do you see?

“copy and paste some ‘not found’ text”

Unsure how to do this When I hover the cursor over renderable text, I can’t interact with it (it’s just the arrow icon). A search skips over known text within the document. When creating the document, I had added pages originally from MS Word like the title page, table of contents, and acronyms sections. Interestingly searches in those areas are successful. Maybe a bi-product of the OCR I ran previously

It’s possible that Filemaker has messed up the text and sent it as a picture. OCR is meant for scans only: rarely we see ski tire of text and text-in-pictures.  Is this normal real text in FileMaker?

Please post a sample PDF file that exhibits the behavior.
