OCR not working

Community Beginner ,
Mar 16, 2022 Mar 16, 2022

I just took two photos of pieces of a page of text.  One I loaded in to Adobe, clicked on edit, and I could copy the text.  The next one I did exactly the same thing and it didn't work.. just had a series of weird boxes that I could edit.  So having read comments I tried Tools and Enhance Scans and Recognize text and just got boxes again. Help!!!,

Hi Sharon

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 22.1.20085 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

A small video recording of the same would be very helpful.

Also, go to Edit (Win), Adobe Acrobat (Mac) > Preferences > Page Display, Under Rendering select 'Use Local fonts'  Click OK and reboot the computer once and check if that helps.

Regards

Amal

HI Sharon,

I need you to clarify several points:

1) when you say "photos," are you being literal in that you took your phone/camera and took a photo of the pages, or, did you scan the pages with a scanner?

2) What was the file format of these images (e.g., jpg, tif, png, what?)?

Thanks

Yes, I moved them from my phone and opened the jpgs directly into Acrobat.  via "open file"  I thin clicked on "edit" and a bar came up "performing page recognition". For one of the files it worked.. I could copy out of it into a Word doc.  The second one did not work. In the one that worked the cursor showed up as a line, in the one tha didn't work it showed up as a cross with arrows at the ends.  Thanks!!!

Hi Sharon,

Thank you for the images you sent, but unfortunately, I cannot see what I need to see in those images.

Is there any chance you can share the original images with me? If you want to send it to me privately, you can DM me.

For the record, I do not work for Adobe. I am just a person like yourself with a reasonable knowledge of Acrobat who tries to help others in these forums.
