Yes, that should work. What happens when you do it?

That ability lies with your system software. In Windows and Mac, when you right-click, you should be offered the choice to "Always use this app to open..." (or somethimg similar). Select that and you should then be able to double-click.

Hi Brad, thanks for the response. When I right click I only get the option of "open with".  There is no option to "always use this app to open"

Hold down Shift when you right-click the file and then select Open With - Choose another app, and then you'll see that option in the dialog window that will open.

Hi.... it opened that way but that's seems to be additional steps.  I am wanting to just do a double click and have the PDF open that way.  Doesn't seem like it's able to.  Thank you for  your help

You only need to do it once. After that the application you selected should automatically be used whenever you double-click any file of that type.

You can try do it from the System side. Go to your Windows 10 > Settings > Apps > Default Apps and selecting at the bottom the option titled "Choose default apps by file type".

Or from within Acrobat itself, by going to Edit - Preferences - General and clicking the "Select Default PDF Handler" button and then selecting Acrobat from the list.

The message you get now means that you have chosen MS Word to open PDF files. Just change it so Acrobat opens PDF instead. You've been given good advice, did you try following it all carefully?
