Password protected pfd has QR code removed

My document has a few QR codes.  After saving the document as Adobe Arobat PDF, everything is OK but as soon as I add a password to prevent editing, the QR code disappears (replaced with an empty box, see below).

How can I prevent this from happening?

Be sure to use Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Standard, since Acrobat Reader cannot display (regular) QRcodes.
