PDF booklet won't print properly

Community Beginner ,
Nov 05, 2018 Nov 05, 2018

I have created a PDF booklet from Publisher and it will not print properly. It is printing 4 pages on each side instead of 2 pages on each side. I've followed the directions carefully each time but still won't print properly.

Hi Cindyalso,

We apologize for the delay in response to your query.

For booklet printing, we suggest you to please refer to the settings suggested in the help document here: Print booklets using Acrobat or Reader and see if that helps you getting the right format for print.

Note: Acrobat 9 is a very old version of Acrobat series which has now been declared as discontinue product. End of support | Reader 9 and Acrobat 9 (and earlier)

Regards,

Akanchha

It's now 2022, 4 years after your post. Acrobat DC Pro and the same exact problem still exists.

Have you found a solution? It says solved and it is not! I have the latest version and tried 5 times wasting toner and sheets and still prints 4 pages instead of 2. They do not even match to create a booklet.

Adobe has become THE WORST company I deal with by far. They never listen to their users. I'm having this same issue 2022 Acrobat DC Pro. Tons of bugs across their products, and zero fixes to basic problems for years on end.

Hello! It is now 2023 and I was able to print a booklet twice – same file, it printed in A4 and A5 size when fitted to page size and everything was fantastic. AND THE NEXT TIME this error showed up and happens over and over and have even re-installed and it just won't work. Give the people a solution!
If anyone has a workaround please please post. It can't be to print or export as a booklet from InDesign, my project was meant for people who only have Acrobat available!

Hi @AkanchhaS @Amal. I'm begging for a solution to this problem. As you can see in the below screenshots, the true size of my pages is as shown in page 1 and 12. Spreads 2-3, 10-11, 4-5 should be full size and spreads themselves.

I was able to print twice a document that was setup as spreads like this, with the correct size using the specs you see here, but then this started happening whilst using the same settings, which makes me think perhaps is a bug of some sort?  This is happening both in PC and Mac.

I'm so sorry but as an Adobe user for well over 20 years professionally, I can tell you they won't be fixing this anytime soon and probably won't ever. You'll probably get a generic reply that they're going to let their engineering team know about it, but they stopped listening to users a long long time ago. These days it's all about pushing new features to appease investers vs listening to what users ask for and need.

Hi @ACG_NZ

Sorry to keep you waiting.

To print booklets, your printer must support either automatic or manual duplex printing (printing on both sides of the paper). Manual duplex printing requires two separate printing passes: one to print the front side, and another to print the back side. To determine whether your printer supports duplex printing, check the printer manual or contact the manufacturer.

For more info. please go through the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/ways-print-pdfs.html

Thanks @Amal. but this is definitely not the problem. This is a bug that is clearly affecting a few people.
Printer supports duplex and this is not the issue, please re-read my post. The issue here is that the Booklet option is defaulting to 4 pages in one single page, instead of 2 pages. And no matter what options are selected, there is no way at rectifying this.

How come the first time I printed with default settings everything was alright, and I haven't been able to do it again? My printer hasn't changed, neither the settings I used.

Please investigate!

Hi @ACG_NZ

We are sorry to hear that.

Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs?

Would you mind sharing the version of the Acorbat/Reader DC and the OS you are using? To check te version go to Help . About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 23.01.2017X (May Release). Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also share the make and model of the printer? and check for any missing/pending updates and try updating it. You may also try to remove the printer driver and reinstall it from the manufacturer's website.

If it still doesn't work, please collect the print logs https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/collect-print-logs-for-acrobat.html and share them for further investigation.
