I would like to send a pdf in my mail. However, I don't want to send it in the attachment but directly visible in the mail. How can I do this?

You cannot.

Apple Mail on Macos is the only e-mail program that displays PDFs as images in the body of an e-mail, but this is the user's choice, not yours.

So then I have to turn the PDF into a JPG to get the file directly visible in the mail?

Displaying images in the body of an e-mail is a user choice, regardless of the e-mail software used.
