Dear Adobe Support Team,
I’m writing to share ongoing performance concerns with Adobe Acrobat that are significantly affecting our workflow.
Across our office, we've found that PDFs open and operate very slowly in Adobe Acrobat, especially when handling files with detailed vector content such as architectural drawings or layered documents. In many cases, the app freezes during the "Preparing document for reading" process, making it practically unusable for our team.
As a result, most of us have stopped using Acrobat altogether. We now rely on Foxit Reader or even Microsoft Edge, which both handle the same files much more efficiently. On many occasions, we've even used online PDF merger tools simply to combine files — just to avoid the sluggish performance in Acrobat.
Given that Adobe Acrobat is an industry standard and a paid tool, we expected better performance and usability. We would appreciate it if this issue could be investigated and addressed in future updates, particularly regarding how Acrobat handles complex files and whether the reading mode can be streamlined or disabled by default.
We hope this feedback helps contribute to improvements, as we’d like to return to using Acrobat as our primary PDF tool.
Many thanks,
David Marcos

Hi David,
Sorry for the troubled experience, and thanks for reaching out.
To disable Acrobat from doing this, "Preparing document for reading". Launch Acrobat > Edit > Preferences > Accessibility, uncheck "Enable assistive technology support." Also, try tweaking the options under the same preference, "Override Page Display."
Let us know how it works, and we will discuss further afterwards.
