Prepare Form - Hide fields not selected

Community Beginner ,
Jul 14, 2021 Jul 14, 2021

Hello!  I created a fillable form with Prepare Form, when testing and filling it out, once I was finished filling and selecting the dropdown fields, I went to save the form and it saves all the blank answers as well.  I would like the entire form to be blank except the fields I filled in or selected.  Is there something I am missing in the properties?

Of course it saves the blank values, too... They are values, after all. What do you want it to show, instead?

Or do you mean that you want to remove the fields and convert them to static contents? If so, you can flatten the file, or set the fields to read-only.

I want the values to be available to choose, but when the document is saved it only saves the values that were selected.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Could you share the file with us?

If you look at the fillable file you are able to select the values.  When the user saves the file I would like the document to save ONLY the values that the user selected, and leave the other "non-selected" values blank.  Does that make more sense?

What does you mean with "non-selected" values?

No, sorry, makes no sense to me. I'm sure what you want to do is reasonable, but I don't understand what it is. It doesn't sound anything like any request I've seen before.  A field where the user doesn't type remains blank, and there's nothing to save in the field.

This is an order form.

The user selects the fields that pertain to the order.

The other fields which were not selected are what I am referring to "non-selected" fields.

Attachment #1:

-The order form with all values available.

-The Green box shows what was SELECTED in that row

-The red box shows what was NOT SELECTED from the rest of that section

Attachment #2:

How I want it to save, with only the selected values

When I save the document this is what it saves...all values (selected or not selected)

So basically you want to reset the fields if... what? If the Size field in that row is not filled in? Or the quantity? Or if (any) one the fields in the row is empty?

By the way, I think this is a bad idea. Users don't usually like it when you delete things they entered without their knowledge. You should maybe display a warning message, but not delete it. What if someone fills in the file partially and then saves it, in order to continue later, only to discover part of what they entered is gone?

They will think the file is faulty, at the very least.

You can use blank (space) entries in the dropdowns.

Thank you!  That is a great idea!  How do I create a blank option?

Not quite. You can't add a truly blank entry via the Acrobat UI. It has to be done using a script.

What you can do, though, is add an item with a single space.

One more question, that will work on dropdowns, what do you suggest on text boxes?  I just tried and it won't allow a space to be saved.
