Prevent copying or printing of downloaded pdf files

1. Is there any way to prevent copying or printing of a pdf file once it has been downloaded from one computer to another?

2. Can passwords still be required for a pdf recipient to copy or print a pdf file once it has been downloaded from one computer to another?

My book publisher is considering giving me rights to sell pdf versions of my books. However, I want to prevent purchasers from making multiple copies of my books. I'm looking at possible ways to prevent purchasers from making multiple copies of a book they've downloaded as a pdf file.  Any thoughts?

Hi senseigk@budoshin.com,

Hope you are doing well. Thanks for writing in!

So, you can directly control how one uses an offline copy of a PDF file.

However, you can set security restrictions on the file from the start. To do so, go to Menu > Document Properties > Security tab > Change the security of the file as per your choice > restrict editing and printing on it (screenshot shared below).

More info can be found here: https://adobe.ly/4nilMho.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Souvik.

File copying is something that happens at a level that doesn't need to know anything about the file format. File copying simply copies the bytes the file consists of to the target medium. Thus, you cannot prevent this.
