Pasword protected against edition and "signed" pdf document,  printed with windows "Microsoft Print to PDF" produces an unprotected pdf file. What a disappointment. I hope there is a fix for this. Please advice.

The fix needs to come from Microsoft so that their software adheres to the PDF specs defined in the relevant ISO.

However, if you (digitally) signed your file then doing that would invalidate the signature and you could prove that the file was modified. That's about the best you can expect in terms of security.
