Question re: Adobe Acrobat

Explorer ,
May 15, 2025 May 15, 2025

For the past several days, whenever I open a photo or document in Adobe Acrobat, I get a message when I'm trying to close it. Even if I have not made any changes, it says there are unsaved changes to the item, and do I want to save them or discard them?

I am using Creative Cloud Desktop on Windows 10.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening, and how I can make it stop?

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Hello @sandral18706!

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out.

Could you please provide more details about the issue? What error message are you receiving? Could you also share a screenshot of the error message? Do you open the files directly within Adobe Acrobat or by double-clicking on them? Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 25.001.20474 (Win), Apr 28, 2025. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > help > check for updates, install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

Disable Auto-Save or Auto-Tagging (for scanned/image-based docs)

Sometimes, Acrobat auto-applies tagging or OCR behind the scenes.

Try this:

  • Open Acrobat

  • Go to: Menu→ Preferences → Documents

  • Uncheck: "Automatically save document changes to temporary file every X minutes"

Then also check:

  • Menu → Preferences → Accessibility

  • Uncheck: “Enable assistive technology support” if you don’t use screen readers.

You can also try the suggestions from this article: https://adobe.ly/4kmwnWh

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

I'm attaching a screen shot of the error message. I checked for updates and there are none. I'm using version 25.001.20474.

I am double clicking on the images to get them to open. I've gone to the Menu and done both suggestions.

It is still happening.

This does not look like a dialog of Acrobat. This is what a Save Changes dialog in Acrobat looks like:

Notice the application name at the top and the correct grammar (yours is badly written and doesn't offer an option to cancel the operation completely). Are you sure you're using Adobe Acrobat for this?

Here is a screenshot of the entire page. I opened Adobe Acrobat in Creative Suite. Double-clicked on the photograph. When I tried to close the program, I got the same error message I got yesterday. I am definitely using Acrobat. I can't understand why this is happening.

I wonder if there is any way I can get in touch with tech support about this.

I can't get that window to show in any version of Acrobat or Reader I tried... Go to Menu - Help - About Adobe Acrobat. What version number does it show?

Hello @ladyinblack1964!

Thank you for providing the details. Could you quickly do a screen recording of the steps and complete workflow that led to the error message? Also, collect the log files from the affected machine, and share it with us. Download the log collector tool, run it, ensure all the log options are selected, reproduce the issue, close the log collector tool, and save the log files. It will generate the logs and a log it, please share it with us along with a sample file for further investigation.

Regards,

Anand Sri.
