Quick scan button -- Where is support for Adobe Acrobat PLUS? -- my card is charged every month

I'd post the exact info from the "about" in "help", but apparently that's not copyable.   Every time I search I get results from other products????

Trying to scan a stack of paper and my hand hurts from the countless actions required to scan.

Is there a way to put a BUTTON for SCAN so my hand doesn't fall off before I'm done?

Just in case I'm posting in the right place ... appreciate any suggestions.

I've got suggestions for you, but you may not like them.

First off, please be aware the Acrobat CANNOT SCAN. What it does, if you're on a PC, is utilize a piece of software called TWAIN, that lets you control the scanners software from within Acrobat. So, every time you scan, you are using your scanner's software, not Acrobat. [If you're on a Mac, Apple forbids TWAIN's use so they allow Acrobat to access their software called Image Capture, which is dreadful scanning software. So I never scan from within Acrobat, regardless.]

The next question I have is, what are you doing with these scanned documents? I ask because if they are for your use only, it's understandable that you may not care about the quality of the scans. But, if you're sending these out to other people, you may wish to care. The vast vast vast vast majority of "SCAN" button results I've seen look pretty dreadful: you can read the text on the other side of the page, they are gray, and any OCR done on the page is fairly dreadful in accuracy.

If any of that is important to you, please check out this blog I wrote for Adobe some time back:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/adobe-community-professionals/scanning-clean-searchable-pdfs/m-p/4785...

Meanwhile, to answer your question, if you just want scans and do not care about the document quality, and since you'll be using your scanner's software, there may be a physical SCAN button on your scanner. Simply use that and scan away. Save all the documents in a conveniently located folder, and when you're done, open that folder in Acrobat and convert all of the scans into PDFs (if they are not already). If they are already in PDF format, you can open this folder up and do the OCRing as an extra step.

If you wish to have Acrobat do the OCRing, I suggest you save each scan as a TIF document, and when you convert them to PDF, Acrobat will also do the OCR at that time. Saving as a JPG will not do this.

I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but that is my best advice, with almost 30 years of scanning documents experience.

Good luck!

Thanks, Gary.
I tried to read your link, but got this error:

"Access Denied

This page isn't available. Try checking the URL or visit a different page."

"there may be a physical SCAN button on your scanner. Simply use that and scan away. "

When I hit scan on the printer, I have to navigate through various options on the printer, much worse than Acrobat.

"If you wish to have Acrobat do the OCRing, I suggest you save each scan as a TIF document, and when you convert them to PDF, Acrobat will also do the OCR at that time. Saving as a JPG will not do this."

What is the advantage of scanning as TIF and then converting?

Why do I have to do this manually, can't Acrobat automatically do whatever it takes to get a decent scan?  Maybe add that to the settings?

"First off, please be aware the Acrobat CANNOT SCAN. What it does, if you're on a PC, is utilize a piece of software called TWAIN, that lets you control the scanners software from within Acrobat. So, every time you scan, you are using your scanner's software, not Acrobat."

I don't know why that's a problem.  I use Win 10 and Acrobat gets me to these options after several clicks:

I'd like to see a QUICK scan button somewhere on all that vacant real estate with my preferred settings including OCR.  Here's the Acrobat  "Home" screen:

The TOP menu has tons of space.
The Menu below has even MORE space, and includes only TWO items, Home and Tools.

Can I add the SCAN button somewhere?

Before posting here I read posts about a "quick" menu or something, but it was not this version of Acrobat.

I'd like to REMOVE all references to the Adobe cloud storage because I will NEVER use it.
I'd also like to REMOVE Agreements as I have none.
I'd like to REMOVE requesting e-signatures as I don't request any.
I'd like to REMOVE getting documents signed fast, there's nothing to sign ever.

All I want to do is to EASILY SCAN and SAVE the pdfs without MORE clicks to navigate to the scan dir.  And then work with some of the scans and files.

Surely there must be the option to SAVE in a default directory of MY choice:

How can I change the default to my SCANS directory?

-------------------------------------------
Here are my scan settings and also the TOOLBAR:

Is the toolbar customizable to include a SCAN button?

Or is it there and I don't see it?

Some of my scans are just personal records, others go on the public record (courts) or websites and so far I don't have an issue with quality.

Time is of the essence though, and scanning is like pulling teeth!  At this rate, I'll have to give up and throw most papers back into the shoebox for my heirs to deal with.

Sorry but I'm very tight on time. Here's another link to the blog. This should be good.

I'll get to your other responses tomorrow. Again sorry.

Gary, that's a great page on removing background.   I just figured out how to add it to the scan presets, but haven't actually printed anything (usually don't) to see how well it works.  Looks good on the screen, but I didn't scan any images yet.  Thanks for that info!

I also saw on your page how to modify the SIDEBARS with the various tools, if I ever knew that I forgot.  Should be handy when I actually work with files.

But I haven't figured out how to change the HOME PAGE shortcuts, the SUGGESTIONS.

That would be a nice place for my SCAN shortcut.

And, no need to apologize because you have other things to do too, appreciate your help!

Here's a screenshot of how to remove background and other filters, in case I forget or maybe it'll help others.

Strangely, it's the SETTINGS button next to "Optimize Image", but then the popup says "Optimize Scanned PDF."

Moved "Scan and OCR" to the top of the sidebar, but that didn't make it show up as suggestion.
