1. What EXACTLY do you do in InDesign that triggers this message?

2. Do you also have a copy of Acrobat Pro?

1.  The file is downloaded from Gmail (sent by my mother)

I go to File--> Print.  Under Printer Settings, I choose PostScript File.  Save.

When asked where to Save PostScript File, I choose Desktop - icloud.

Then InDesign notifies me that "You cannot save this document with extension '.indd" at teh end of the name. The required extension is 'ps".  I hit Use.ps.

InDesign then begins to save PostScript file.

I then open PostScript file with Preview and get the error message "The PostScript file ------.ps could not be converted to a PDF file.

Ok, so the app giving the message is not in fact InDesign but Preview...

So, you're starting with an INDD file, correct?

You open it in InDesign, and choose File > Print. Ok, why? What are you aiming for?

If you want a PDF from InDesign do NOT use print and especially don't use Preview. Use Export.

I'm starting with an INDD file. Correct.

I'm aiming to have the booklet viewed as a PDF.  I will try Exporting now.

If you MUST convert PostScript to PDF, then use Distiller. Not Preview, it is awful.
