Hello Anand Sri,
your advice does not work for me. Maybe you have another workaround?
When installing a purchased "used" newer version , for which I had to uninstall my Acrobat 9 pro (from the CS4 bundle), my antivirus program barked "Crack Trojan!". So I cancelled the installation, restored my Acrobat 9 via restore point and backup. The serial number was then requested (why?), but the authentic one was not accepted. I tried to re-install pro 9.0 from my CS4 DVDs, saying woefully goodbye to my patiently installed updates, but it would not work either. In the Adobe FAQ it is advised to de- and reinstall the whole CS4. But I did not trust it, fearing the complete shutdown of my working instruments. Here in the forum I got the explanation that servers up to Acrobat 9 and CS4 were shut down.
Experts continuously state that Acrobat 9 would not work with Win 10, which is absolute rubbish. I had Win10 when I installed CS4, and Acrobat 9 worked flawlessly. Some days before the above mentioned deinstallation, a printout problem could be fixed with the overdue updates to 9.5.5).
The registration has strangely disappeared from my account. When I enter the serial number in the search, it reports that it is in use. Yes, that is true!!! By me!!! This is absurd. As for the old versions, the support is not willing to help, I'm already thinking about suing Adobe for the release of a valid serial number for my legally paid version, but that would of course take much more time than the generously granted 30-days trial on my own software. So I hope that I eventually get a useful clue here.
Best,
Marieluise

Sounds like your used suite was, like most sold today, a cracked version (that is, including malware to bypass Adobe license checks so it runs without a valid license). It may have made system changes before the anti-malware barked. In such a case, personally, I'd wipe the system and restore from a full backup taken before the new purchase. If this isn't an option, consider wiping and starting again (warning, you will lose all your stuff that isn't backed up).
You COULD check the hosts file c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts - open it with Notepad by pasting that text into the Open box. See if any lines in that file mention Adobe. Warning: tell us what you see before changing anything, and back it up before starting changes.

Hello,
1. I can hardly imagine that Original DVDs packed in an Original Adobe Case with an authentic Key on the back, purchased in 2017 from a registered seller, having been installed with that key and been running all the time without any problem, would be a cracked version not being detected by your new genuine tester.
Maybe I didn't make my point clear enough:
The newly purchased software was not the suite, but Acrobat pro 9. I broke off the installation short after its start when my ESET signalled this cracker Trojan (forgot the name). It is reported on many sites to be well known and rather not dangerous but, besides indicating there is illegal stuff to be installed, it is apt to load unwished files every now and then when the software would work.
I checked my whole system - it was proper. And ESET is one of the most trustworthy watchdogs who always barks before something would happen (In 30 years, I never ever had any malware on my PC!).
Then I restored the system by the restore point that was set before any attempt to install anything.
I checked my whole system again - it is proper.
2. In that host file, neither Adobe nor any other brand name is mentioned:
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost
Why and what should I change?
3. After the system restore, Adobe wouldn't accept my registered authentic serial number printed on the DVD case. I understand well that the support for sold software stops after some years. But nowhere it is stated that Adobe would have the right to stop me using my legally purchased software by just refusing to accept my legal key. It's very easy to always blame all bugs on users' mistakes or a possible trojan or virus - why not on Covid 19, the latest standard excuse for everything not working?
But I got the impression nobody can really help me. I just purchased an Acrobat Pro 2017 in DVD version and hope this will end my Acrobat lamentations.
Regards
Marieluise

Your post suggested you did not buy it from an Adobe registered seller. You wrote 'When installing a purchased "used" newer version'. I am sorry if I misunderstood "used" as meaning an old version, previously used by someone else, and sold to you.

Thanks for wanting to help, but there is no help as I want to keep my cs4 untouched and don't dare to reinstall the whole bundle. Well, I solved the problem by the simplest way: by purchasing a newer Acrobat version. Caso finito.
