Run-time error '53'

New Here ,
May 29, 2025 May 29, 2025

Every time I open a new or existing Word document, I get the following error message.

Header: Visual Basic for Applications

Run-time error '53':

File not found: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/MACPDFM/MacPDFM.framework/Versions/A/MacPDFM

I need to select "End" twice in order to use Word. It doesn't happen with Excel or Powerpoint.

I've been on Tech support calls with Apple and Microsoft. They suggest I try Adobe. Please help.

Hi @SusanBlackman,

Sorry for the troubled experience.

The Run-time Error 53 in Adobe Acrobat typically indicates a missing file or component, often due to issues with add-ins or corrupted installations. This error can occur on both Windows and macOS systems. Here’s how we can address this issue:

1. Check for Missing Add-ins or Plugins

  • On macOS:

    • Navigate to ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Startup/Word/ and look for files like linkCreation.dotm.

    • If found, remove these files as they may be causing the error.

2. Reinstall or repair the apps:

  • On macOS

    • MS Office:

      • Use the Microsoft Office installer to reinstall or repair the Office suite.

    • Acrobat:
      • Try reinstallation

Let us know how it works
