Saving typed text for later use

I used to be able to save typed text for later use, e.g. today's date, so when I go to fill in another PDF with the date, it appears as a dropdown choice. But not lately. I have the box checked to permit me to do that in settings, but no help. The only suggestions in the drop down menu when I start typing are old ones.

Any suggestions?
