Our accounting system creates HTML and PDF copies of each of our monthly project invoices for use in our system workflow. We have grown to the point where the end of month prebill process creates well over 2000 prebills and it creates the PDF versions at a rate of about 10 per minute so it is taking hours to create all the PDF's. While this file creation process is underway the server is pegged and generally very slow to respond to any other process requests so the accounting staff pretty much sit on their hands for hours waiting for the reports to finish being created. The server runs on VM Ware and now has 8 CPU's with 2 cores on each. Prior to today it had 4 CPU's and a total of 4 cores. We got much improved performance in processing the raw report data, but the PDF file creation process does not appear to take advantage of the CPU/Core upgrades. We're searching for some options to speed this process up but have no idea what might help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
