Hi @BenCre ,

If your issue is related to certificate-based digital signatures, I've seen this happen before with certain PDF documents at work (but not with every PDF document that I open with Adobe Adobe Acrobat), specially when using outdated versions of Adobe Acrobat. In which case, updated Acrobat should improve the observed issue.

If your Acrobat is fully updated then disregard my remark above.

Although I am not entirely sure why that happens, I suspect it is likely related to outdated Adobe Approved Trust Lists (AATL) or European Union Trusted Lists (EUTL) or lack of validating the signed document when it is opened and viewed in Adobe Acrobat.

You can try and see if updating AATLs and EUTLs can improve your experience:

  • open Adobe Acrobat (you don't need to have any document opened to perform the steps listed below)
  • Go to EDIT =>> PREFERENCES =>> TRUST MANAGER
  • tick the checkboxes "Load trusted certificates from an Adobe AATL server" and "Load trusted certificates from an Adobe EUTL server" respectively
  • click on the "Update Now" buttons

Now, when you open the PDF document in which you want to remove the signatures, see if a blue banner appears with a message at the top left corner of the working space:  "At least one signature requires  validating."

If this banner is present, see also to the far right corner of that blue banner that  there is a button: "Signature Panel", click on it.

When you click on that button, the left pane will open up and will give you an option to validate all signatures: click on "Validate All".

At this time, Acrobat will validate all the signatures; if all are good a green checkmark will appear next to each signature. Now, you should be able to right-click on each signature field and the option to clear the signature should be present in that context menu. When you click on "Clear Signature" it should happen immediately with no delays or extra clicking on anything else in that document.

If one or more signatures are reported with a problem after the validation, a few extra manual steps must be taken to trust the certificates that belong to the signature(s) that couldn't be verified during the initial validation..

Apologies i dont think i explained this correctly,

the documents we are getting require us to put 1 of 4 signatures i have on it. and with adobe you can only have one signature and one initials. so to add one of the other 2 signatures we need to remove an existing one from the list and add the one we are going to need. (Attached to the origional post is a video showing the issue).

Ah! Ok, you're referring to electronic signatures, not certificate-based digital signatures.

For this type of workflow I would employ Adobe Sign. It allows you to add the required signature fields.

If you don't mind me asking, were you sharing this file as an email attachment?
