Dov,

I deleted the PS driver and tried the PCL driver again.  I went thru all the settings and saw that

"Print all teaxt as black" was disabled.  So I enabled it and the document printed successfully.

Again, my sincere thanks for your guidance!  I hope this is the final fix!!

Based on the evidence you provided, this sounds like a printer driver issue.

Acrobat knows nothing about “PCL XL” which is in fact a page description language from Hewlett Packard. Acrobat (and Reader) simply pass GDI commands to the driver subsystem which then generates the PCL XL that is sent to the printer.

You didn't indicate exactly what type of printer you are printing to, but I would try the following:

(1) See if the printer manufacturer has posted updated printer drivers. If so, download and install them.

(2) If your printer supports a different PDL (page description language) such as PostScript or PCL5, use those drivers instead.

Mr Dov Isaacs:

I greatly appreciate and thank you for your early reply / suggestion!

I use an HP Laserjet 1536dnf MFP printer.  I returned to the HP site

and downloaded driver  upd-pcl6-x32-6.3.0.21178.exe and it printed

a PDF doc with black background and white text.  I am pretty sure my

laptop is 16-bit but I did not see such a driver, so that might be an issue.

Should I try the only other HP driver which is: PostSCript 32;bit to see if

it will print black text on white background?

Thank you!   John

Actually, it is physically impossible for you to have a “16-bit laptop” — all Windows systems for at least the last 15 years have been either 32-bit or 64-bit.

Try the PostScript driver.

I loaded the PS driver and it does not work - it claims the paper tray is empty, or that a door is open, etc.
