Text Edit Box not going away

The text editing box that appears when editing text in Acrobat sometimes does not want to close out, even when selecting another tool (i.e. highlighter or drawing a shape). It doesn't even move with the custom toolbar panel, it stays frozen in place. Even when opening another pdf file, the text edit box appears on that pdf file, in the same location. Here's a snapshot of how it looks:

The only solution I've found was to completely close out of Acrobate and start it again, which is very inconvenient for the price of the software subscription.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. JAK.

Hi @Khalid38945170l6l1 ,

Are you able to share a copy of that PDF with nonsensitive data on it?

Are you on Microsoft Windows 11 or Windows 10?

And which version of Acrobat Pro do you have?

I'm running Windows 10 Enterprise 64bit.  OS Version: 10.0.19045

The Acrobat Pro version I'm running is:  Continous Release 2024.002.21005 /  24.2.21005.0

Total Physical Memory: 16493348 KB
Total Virtual Memory: 4194176 KB

Unfortunately, I can't share a copy of the pdf as the information on it is senstive. Additionally, that would defeat the purpose I assume, as closing out of the pdf file and reopening it solves the frozen toolbox. This happens infrequently, maybe once ever few hundred pdf edits. JAK.

Assuming that you haven't done so yet, What happens if you repair the installation?

I'm not able to. I don't have administrative rights on my device, and reinstalling it needs them.

Ok, not a big issue though. I assumed this was a work environment, but I wasn't 100% sure.

How about, applying updates to Acrobat manually?

Is that something you can do at the user-level or is it restricted too?

If it is restricted, try with your Administrator to repair/reinstall or check if your version is missing any optional or important updates.

I also forgot to ask, is this computer a virtual desktop machine, currently sharing resources accross a network?

I'm not able to apply manual updates either unfortunately.

This is a stand-alone device that doesn't share any hardware resources, but we are connected to one intranet to share files.

No one else had the same pdf file opened at the same time as me.

This isn't a major issue at all, it's just happened one too many times so I wanted to share it in case someone out there runs into it. I want them to know that they're not alone. Hello friend, restart is our common ally at the moment! Thank you for all your concern and troubleshooting!

Hi @Khalid38945170l6l1

It looks like Acrobat went into non-responding mode.

Can you pleae follow section for "Collecting logs when Acrobat/Reader hangs or freezes"

at  https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/collect-logs-crash-freeze.html and capture the logs.
Upload logs in any cloud drive and share the link.

Regards,

Subrato
