I am trying to add a border color and line thickness to text field boxes on a pdf form. Acrobat Pro DC will not change the color from transparent and will not allow me to add a border. Both "Line Color" and "Line Thickness" remain greyed out. Is there an issue with this feature in Acrobat? Thanks.

The fix for this issue has been officially rolled out with latest Acrobat update

I'm up to date according to the CC panel and 1. the ability to change the colour of the text field does not work and 2. the links keep timing out on my end but thanks for the condescending reply all the same.

WORK AROUND: I am working on a MacBook Pro, with Acrobat XI and have the same problem. I then opened a prior document that I have that has a field box where the background color option is working; I copied that box and pasted it into a document where I cannot create a colorable field box; the old, nontransparent properties remained for the pasted box!! The properties dialog still does not contain an optional transparency box, but I was able to import a box with the characteristics I wanted; also, you can change the fill color.
I presume the same holds true for a field box with a border: just go to document where it worked before, copy it and paste it into your new document.
But seriously, Adobe has NO excuse for not fixing this bug now or months ago.

Keep in mind that it's a MacOS High Sierra issue and that Acrobat XI will no longer be updated: Adobe Acrobat XI and Adobe Reader XI End of Support | Adobe Blog

Yes, I am aware of the end of support, and thank you for pointing that out. But since I paid decent money for this version of Acrobat, I'm going to keep using it until I absolutely cannot use it anymore (I'm not a fan of subscription services).

As a fast fix, I did as you suggested and just copied/pasted the form and changed its naming properties to what I need it to say. There really needs to be a fix though, makes us go crazy trying to figure this out not knowing it is a bug.

An usefull workaround is given in the best answer of this topic: Re: 'no colour' option not available when in properties with check, text boxes etc. Mac

I'm paying dang good money for a product that does not function as indicated! Is Adobe abandoning Acrobat DC? I have an online subscription; it seems like this would be a very simple fix!
For crying out loud Adobe, get your act togeather!

Still not fixed. This is really unacceptable. Acrobat on the Mac has always been the lesser product and yet it costs the same as the PC version. This is really unacceptable.
Edited to add: Just to clarify, I am using the current continuous release version: 2018.011.20038 that I pay $50 a month for this along with other Adobe apps.

You can not be serious, Acrobat XI works very well with compatible operating systems. Nothing required you to install an incompatible OS.
You can not and should not ignore this very clear warning: Adobe Acrobat XI and Adobe Reader XI End of Support | Adobe Blog

I am using Acrobat Pro DC and am having the same issues. Anyone know what the issue is with Adobe? This function is why I have this software!

Someone has, very helpfully, posted a fix for this issue that works across various appearances of the issue (comment tools, form tools, etc.) at How to draw shape in 'Comments' with no fill

Yes that worked! Thanks so much for posting this. This is satisfactory to me.

That fix works wonderfully for the fill. It doesn't solve the problem of creating a transparent border. Or at least it didn't for me.

WORKAROUND: In brief, CMD+E will bring up the text field properties toolbox from which you may successfully choose a border for your control. This is the solution mentioned at Re: How to draw shape in 'Comments' with no fill

Thank you for this amazing hint!
At least there is a workaround, since Adobe is unable to fix this very annoying bug...

I've been having this issue as well. It's pathetic that it hasn't been fixed!!
Meanwhile, Adobe increases it's subscription rates. Burns me...
