My Adobe Acrobat XI Pro worked fine, when - probably due to a malicious program that might have removed my registration - it started to say that I have reached the maximum number of allowed computers it can be installed on and I will have to provide a new serial number within ... 10, 9, 8 ... days.
I was kindly assisted by Adobe Customer Service and was asked to uninstall and reinstall again, since the Deactivate menu line was dimmed.

Ask customer service to reset your activations. Then change your password on your Adobe account that the software is registered under as a precaution.

Your original post stated that you were assisted by Adobe Customer Service, so I'm confused. Are you saying you don't know how to contact them or you don't know what to ask?
Chat with them or call them.
Ask to reset your activations for your product.

I have done it, no success. Uninstalling an re-installing the software did not help, Deactivate menu item was dimmed.

Un-/Re-installing will not affect your activations. You need to go back to customer service and have them reset the activations on their end, not yours.

Ah! Thank you very much, I will try it.
